Coronavirus Disease Outcomes in HIV/AIDS Patients
Introduction
HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus) - the virus which attacks people for a long time to death, caused by sexual contact, blood transferring, or through breastfeeding from an HIV+ mother to the baby.
‘Coronavirus/COVID-19’- the word which shook the world over the years. This COVID-19 transports the life of people into hell; lakhs of people died, and many lost their jobs, food, and shelter. This Coronavirus shows its impact on normal people and people already suffering a lot in their life-mean HIV patients.
Here, in this article, let us discuss the outcomes in HIV patients who have Coronavirus/COVID-19 attacks and the vaccination process of HIV patients regardless of the stage.
What are the Outcomes of Coronavirus in HIV Patients?
According to medical studies and research, the COVID-19 symptoms don't severely impact HIV patients in the advanced stage( CD4 count is low).
Compared to their HIV-negative counterparts, the primary outcome was susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 among PLWHA.
The secondary outcome was the mortality risk of COVID-19/coronavirus patients with HIV compared to COVID-19 patients without HIV.
The severe COVID-19 outcome is PWH, which appears to be at higher risk, even after considering demographic factors and comorbidities.
PWH appears at higher risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes even after considering demographic factors and comorbidities associated with severe disease.
Some medical research showed contradictory results about HIV patients with COVID-19 symptoms. The main reason for these contradictory results is the scarcity of existing literature and evidence inconsistency.
The HIV patients with advanced stage or CD4 count greater than 500 experienced moderate severity medical outcomes.
On the other hand, HIV patients with a CD4 count of less than 500 experienced severe clinical issues or outcomes.
Do COVID-19 vaccines safe for people with HIV?
COVID-19 vaccines are safe for HIV persons. According to clinical studies and research, no evidence exists that COVID-19 vaccines don't affect HIV people who are under or going to get treatment.
Instead, COVID-19 vaccines meet the Food and Drug Administration’s scientific standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing qualities.
COVID-19 vaccines are safer for all people under 6 months or older. Regardless of CD4 count, HIV patients should get vaccinated.
After completing the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines, the HIV person should get an additional primary shot and a booster shot after 2 months of the last dose.
This additional primary shot improves the body's immune system to respond to the 2-dose COVID-19 vaccine series.
CDC( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) doesn’t recommend an additional primary shot of the COVID-19 vaccine for people with HIV /who do have an advanced stage.
Conclusion
Finally, we can say that coronavirus/COVID-19 shows less severe symptoms in HIV persons. But regular vaccination can save the HIV person by not getting underlying to death by Coronavirus.
